Women Chemists Committee

June, 2004

Very often, the choice of a career is influenced by the teachers we encounter during our school years.  This can be very important for young women who may be interested in math and science.  Having a successful woman chemistry teacher who can be a role model and a mentor can often encourage a young woman to consider chemistry as a career goal.  However, sometimes starting out in another field also leads to a successful career in chemistry.  I have chosen three such women, at different levels of the education system, to profile for this poster.  I sent each a list of questions concerning their work, upcoming projects, and honors. Following are their responses.

  1. Alanah Fitch
  2. Linda Brazdil
  3. Susan Shih
