Chicago ACS Chemistry Day
 
Chemistry Day, part of National Chemistry Week, will be held at the Museum of Science and Industry on Saturday, November 6. This the first CCD to be held at MSI since it underwent major remodeling in the 90's - the first CCD was held at this venue in 1986.

Special this year will be a presentation on "What it takes to make the US Chemistry Olympiad team" by Alexander Ho, 1999 gold medalist, from Niles West High School in Skokie and his teacher, Ann Levinson.

The day starts at 9:30 with contests using chemical techniques and every day materials - pH is pHun! There are prizes for all that preserve. Another opener will be "Is it Chemistry or is it Magic" show which answers the question again at the 3:00 finale.

Throughout the day from 9:30 to 3:00, there will be three concurrent areas (rings) of activities. Demonstrations of chemical phenomenon by high school teachers from all over Chicago area will run continuously. At the same time there exhibitors from universities, industry and government agencies will represent the scope of chemistry in our daily lives.

In addition to the chem magic shows and the Chemistry Olympiad celebration there will be four other presentations on stage to cover topics from Stellar nucleosynthesis to DNA and forensics to water soluble polymers.
