For the discovery and development of several major pharmaceuticals including Vasotec, Lisinopril, Primaxin, Ivomec, Mevacor and Procar; introduction of the concept of stereoelectronic control; directing the first solution synthesis of an enzyme; demonstrating that the therapeutic index of an anti-inflammatory steroid can be improved via biochemistry-based prodrug design; initiating peptide-based research incorporating a rationally designed novel scaffold to replace the amide backbone.The presentation was held on May 24, 2002 at the Guest House, Argonne National Laboratory. The award was presented by ACS President Eli Pearce on behalf of the Chicago Section. Dr. Daniel H. Rich, Ralph F.
